With RevBank you prepay for your drinks and snacks at a number of
hackerspaces. It's similar to drink tokens, but neatly tracked
digitally (without any blockchain of course). Convenience comes first: paying
for a drink generally takes only about 3 to 5 seconds.
RevBank is software, not a central system. That means you have a separate
balance at each hackerspace; you can't use your balance from one space at
another. (That's intentional; the advantages of separate systems outweigh
the advantages of being able to pay with a remote account.)
Because RevBank can be configured flexibly with plugins, it works a little
differently at each space. The way you top up your balance varies the most,
e.g. when a space accepts no cash at all, or only cash. The commands "help"
and "deposit" will show you what's possible.
The basics are the same everywhere: scan the barcodes of products, then pay
for them by typing/scanning your account name.
